Hello and welcome to the online blog for the in-hand poetry magazine, The Poetry Bus.Issue one will be heading to the printers sometime soon. We hope to launch Midsummers Day June 2010.
We are a completely unfunded magazine, a fund free zone. We took the fun out of fund and burnt it.
The editors are stumping up/ borowing the money for the first print run which will hopefully sell enough copies to repay their debts and pay for the next print run.
The Mag will have to be self sufficient for now.
A list of the first issues contributors and more info including how to submit to the next issue will be appearing soon.
All you weary travellers in poetry land, you who are broken in spirit, poor of heart, climb aboard The Poetry Bus where you will find succour and a spongy seat waiting for you.
Just an idea.. but paypal have a donate button you can aquire when you upgrade to a business/premium account (which as far as I can see is free, apart from usual transaction fees etc).. they also have buy now buttons, might be a handy way to let people buy their mags etc.. mind you, I could be talking bollix, lol!
ReplyDeleteLoving the new site too :-D cool!
I wanna ride!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on making the mag a reality :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and thanks to the editors for all your hard work. Hey - I'm in the UK right now. If I see the Poetry Bus barreling down one of these crazy little roads, I'll break a bottle of bubbly over it. We really should have a ceremony, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteAren't most poets broke in wallet, but rich in spirit?
ReplyDeleteI'm still thinkin' the self-published route is the way to begin. Print-on-demand and drop ship those bad boys. then once the thing takes off, migrate it to a traditional print shop and the original issues become collectors items!
Way to go, TFE! And the site is beautiful! That's my favorite poetry bus pic! :D
ReplyDeleteHi! I tried a "donate" button on a blog that gave away sheet music. Plenty of music downloaded, zilch donated!
ReplyDeleteThere's always adsense ads. Just click on "monetise" (when I first saw that link to click on I thought it gave your bog an impressionist background. Just shows what a useless entrepreneur I'd make!) on that main page you get when you sign in and follow the instructions.
Thanks Watercats, it's up there now, shiny and new and waiting to be pressed!
ReplyDeleteYou've come to the right Bus Titus!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorenzo, going to need it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shaista, almost there!
ReplyDeleteWe like Bubbly Sandra Leigh.
ReplyDeleteSpot on Mojo, I think that's what we're going to try to do.
ReplyDeleteyesyesyes!
ReplyDeletelove the pic!
love the mag!
i think my mum is going to want one too.
Let's all raise a glass to the Bus
and another to TFE!
I shall show my camaraderie by bunking onto the Luas today!!
ReplyDeleteSelf-published is beholden to no one, and that's the spirit of the bus. We go where we wanna go, drive without a license, and cover the springs with duct tape! Let us Yanks know how we can donate.
ReplyDeleteGo on ! NanU 's Mammy!
ReplyDeleteAnarchy rules Uiscebot!
ReplyDeleteKaren , I don't believe it! Press the DONATE button it takes credit cards and paypal and tings.
ReplyDeleteIf that don't work, let me know. All help most gratefully recieved and appreciated. Tis (almost) panic stations here, but don't tell anyone!
Hi P,
ReplyDeleteHey the bus looks great.
RE: donations.... I've seen where developers sometimes use a "buy me a coffee" button instead of "donate". It implies that a small amount is ok as they say that the whole donate thing puts people in a bit of a tis. How much should I give? will they think I'm taking the piss if I only give a fiver etc. You could do something like have one button to "donate your bus fare" and then maybe another more general "donate" button.
No money in amazon books but google ads do work. Not a lot of €€'s involved though and some would say it does weaken the integrity of the bus if there's lots of ads.
What about a sponsor? Once you have your readership up a bit you might be able to get one or two - could pay for cleaning up the upchucky at the back of the bus after a saturday night!
Anyway, Good look to the brave and bold!

Oh, count me in, whither thou goest, I shall go, thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.
ReplyDeleteI'll even donate. I like Maria's comment above.
Tanks Ró, all god advice and help I'll look into those options!
ReplyDeleteEnchanted Oak! You are a star! Thanks a million, for the words and for the money. Apart from going towards the printing, it gives us a real boost a real lift a giant shove forward in spirit. This thing can work.I don't know where The Bus Mag will end , but at least it's beginning.Anything is possible and noyhing is so bright and shiny as that.
ReplyDeleteI'm there. Let me shake out my purse and see if among the poems on back of napkins & receipts I can find a dollar or two lurking to donate. Love this! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI will personally hand you some cool cash when I see you in the Big D. Oh, and I'll need a receipt. will help you compose that. : )
ReplyDeleteDid you decide on the price you want? I'm getting out my purse (I have a Paypal account, actually), but need to know how much you want.
ReplyDeleteKat
Cool cash is HOT Jeanne.Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHello Poetikat,if you're looking to donate then anything is welcome, but if you are looking to buy the mag, we're not quite ready yet to take money for it.In fact we will wait till it's actually printed.Either way thank you Poetikat.
ReplyDeleteI wanna ride! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteYou are part of the revolution that is sweeping out the old order. Peace, bread and class politics !!
